All about boardgames
Like
most things, boardgames have developed a lot over the last century. While
we may be familiar with music and films made after the 1950s, this is
generally not true for boardgames: did you know Monopoly is more than
70 years old? The "Hollywood" for modern boardgames is Germany where family
gaming is very popular - and a wide range of these games is now available
in English.
They are easy to learn and play, and typically last less than an hour.
Boardgames are good for you!
- Research has identified that a characteristic of strong, resilient
families is that they enjoy spending time together, sharing activities
like playing boardgames.
- Playing boardgames may help to reduce your chances of developing Alzheimer's
disease - by up to 74%, according to one study.
- Research by the Chicago Toy Fair suggests that playing boardgames
can improve a child's IQ by up to 16 points.
- Boardgames help in developing a range of skills including co-operation,
turn-taking, being a good sport - even co-ordination of managing dice
or cards.
- Most importantly, boardgames are fun!
Why not host your own boardgaming session for your friends or family?
