We have not succeeded in making a DVD combining audio and video.However you can read an excellent summary of the session in .pdf format by Andrew Stapleton at his website Andrew Stapleton's Forum write-up Boardgames Australia is proud to announce a special event for game designers, to be held on Monday, June 9, 2008 in conjunction with the 2008 Australian Games Expo in Albury. The game designer forum, which will run from 10am-1pm, will cover a range of topics relevant to game design and game designers, both in the mainstream and in the hobby markets. It will provide a place for game designers to meet one another, and we plan to provide some structured opportunities for designers to pitch completed designs to potential publishers. In 2008, there will be NO charge to attend the game designers' event, however we would appreciate a gold coin donation to help cover some of our costs. 10am-11am The Game Business A discussion of all aspects of game publishing, from soliciting and evaluating submissions through game development and production and will field questions. [While the number of speakers is limited, we will include material/comments from other publishers and industry identities.] Speakers: - Zev Shlasinger (ZMan Games)

Zev is the President of ZMan Games, a New York-based publisher founded in 1999. As well as original titles, ZMan Games also publish English-language versions of European titles. Mike is the Vice President of Acquisitions for major US toy and game publisher HASBRO. 11am-11.30am Intellectual Property By request - a discussion of Intellectual Property and how it relates to Boardgames, Boardgame design and Publishers' Submission processes. Speakers: Peter is a patent and trade mark attorney in the Melbourne office of Davies Collison Cave, where he fills a number of roles. He provides a range of intellectual property management services to corporate clients, and manages tenders and proposals for the firm. He also leads the firm's business development activities in regional Victoria, conducting seminars and workshops, and helping prospective clients to develop an understanding of intellectual property principles. Before joining Davies Collison Cave, Peter was in-house Intellectual Property Manager for Telstra Corporation for several years. He is registered to practice in Australia and New Zealand and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in IP Law from the University of Melbourne. He is also qualified as an Electronics Engineer. 11.30-11.45am Tea break 11.45am-12.15pm Self-Publishing A discussion of the benefits and pitfalls of self-publishing a game, covering things to do, things to avoid, and what you might need to think about. Phil is the designer and self-publisher of Archaeology and Archaeology: The Card Game. His new game will be debuting at the Australian Games Expo. Ben is a director of an Adelaide based design and print company where he handles the graphic design and server-side programming. He's worked in the field for well over a decade after gaining a degree in Design from the University of South Australia, where he also lectured for a time in multimedia. Meredith is the principal of Ashton Productions. She is experienced at PR and Marketing and is currently the publicist for the Australian Games Expo. 12.15pm-12.45pm Rules, Playtesting and Development A panel discussion about developing your game – how to playtest, ways to improve your rules, and how it might change over time. We'll also talk about resources for game development so be prepared to share your tips on where to find prototyping material. Speakers: - Richard Vickery, Boardgames Australia

Richard has a keen interest in boardgame and rules development, and is the Chair and one of the founders of Boardgames Australia.
