Recommendation List #4

Designer's Playtesting Day in Sydney Print E-mail

All board game designers are invited to attend the inaugural Boardgames Australia Protospiel event.

This event offers an opportunity for game designers, whether new or established, to bring their prototype games and play them with other designers. The chance to acquire feedback from other designers, as well as sharing advice and contacts, wil make this a valuable and fun event.

Please spread this invitation to anyone you think may be interested. For this first event, we are restricting attendees to game designers; in the future, we might allow other people to come along as participants to help increase the number of play-testers.

Please email us at info - at - boardgamesaustralia.org.au if you have any queries.

Event:   Sydney Protospiel
Date:    Saturday May 16
Time:    noon - 5 pm

         1 Richardson Crescent,Tempe
         - opposite Tempe Station
         - free parking at venue

Cost:    $5 payable on the day.

Format of the day:
3 - 4 ninety minute play-testing sessions.
We will assign you to groups for each session.
You will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement that you will not discuss the games you playtest outside of the event.
You commit to playing 2 or 3 other games and providing feedback on them.

What you need to do and bring:

* Before the day
Sign up to the Boardgames Australia website and add your game's details to the forum
http://www.boardgamesaustralia.org.au/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=33&func=view&catid=7&id=&id=108&catid=7

 If you do not have an account on our website, email us at info - at - boardgamesaustralia.org.au and we will send you a username and password.

* On the day
Bring your prototype to play.

The sessions will be 90 minutes long.
This time includes:

rules explanation
set-up
play
debrief

We suggest you allow 30 minutes to debrief your session. This means that if your
game takes more than 45-60 minutes to play, you will need to figure out a way of
truncating it for test purposes.

Bring paper and pen to write notes about the feedback you get.

The Concordia Club has reasonably priced food and drink.

We will provide a contact list of all participants to enable exchange of information after the event.
